What JoAnn Tier, Superintendent of the Diocese of Trenton, is saying
about Dr. Ellen M.E. Wedemeyer (December, 2012)
“Educators re-commit each year to provide a wide range of instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners. The skill set required to accomplish this task is oftentimes not part of an instructor’s professional background. Professional development with Dr. Ellen Wedemeyer provided a starting point for our instructors to become more familiar with educational models, theories and strategies for students with specific learning needs.“
Dr. Wedemeyer gives a frank and compassionate perspective of what it means to be a child with learning needs because she knows the realities first hand. Turning a disadvantage into a positive outcome, Dr. Wedemeyer has served as Assistant Superintendent for Special Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She is a professor of special education at St. Joseph’s University and a sought after speaker and presenter. Her targeted message is clear, informative and one that provides effective tools to meet the needs of all learners. It was a privilege to have Dr. Wedemeyer speak to principals as well as teachers in the Diocese of Trenton. Our students, teachers and schools have been the beneficiaries of her wisdom and wit.”

This website is in response to the wonderful people I met in Savannah (Hello Idaho), at the NCEA Special Education Conference and in New Orleans, at the NCEA conference, who asked me “How do we get you to inscribe books for our principals, faculty and parents?” and “How do we get you to do staff development, in person?”
You can purchase the book on this website and I will inscribe it. Members of NCEA can also purchase the book from the NCEA website. You can learn how to bring me to your school, diocese, or organization through the pictures across the top of this site. Learn about my choir, my story, my life, my family, my friends, the TNG, and how all of that has come together in this book.
I was a child with a special need in a Catholic school back when no one knew what special education meant and almost no one knew what to do about it. Today I am a professor of special education at St. Joseph’s University and the former Assistant Superintendent for Special Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. I was responsible for children with special needs in 200 elementary schools, 20 high schools, five schools of special education and many programs for students with learning disabilities in grades k-12.
I use the five keys I have created over the past twenty years, to open minds and open hearts to the needs of all students and I provide practical strategies that really work. I have stood where our Catholic administrators now stand, I have taught as our Catholic teachers now teach (for a starting salary of $15,500), and I have sat in the desk where the child with a special need in a Catholic school now sits.
I was once told that to write well, you need to write what you know, and this is what I know, this is my story….Please don’t forget to give me your address and please let me know how you would like me to inscribe the book for you. It is my hope that you find it useful and that your copy becomes truly tattered.
